History

The Dream:

Manipal is known for higher education. There are many renowned institutions in science, medicine, engineering and commerce. Manipal had a thriving Christian community and a small Church. This community consisted of faculty members, students and employees of Manipal group. To meet the educational needs of the community Fr. Harold Mascarenhas, the then parish priest of Manipal conceived the idea and laid out the plan for what would become “Christ School” in the future. Without much financial support or infrastructure in place, it was indeed a “leap of faith.” With two teachers and an attendant, Christ play school and kindergarten made a humble beginning on 1st June 1999 with 28 students.

The Foundation:

Three years after its inception Christ School took a new leap. A new building found its way in 2004. Fr. Joseph Cardoza, the second Correspondent of the Christ School, took up the challenge to upgrade the school. He initiated the process of affiliating the school to the Central Board of Secondary Education. Eventually Christ School acquired considerable reputation as a school with a difference. The steadfast efforts of the Principal and staff bore fruit and the school was affiliated to CBSE in 2008.

New Heights:

With the arrival of Fr. Francis Lewis as our Correspondent in 2008, Christ School scaled new heights. Fr. Lewis worked relentlessly, personally supervising every single phase of development. Today Christ School has established itself a reputed school which the present and future generation of students will ever be indebted. Thanks to all the benefactors who contributed generously for the growth of the school.

2016 onwards Rev. Fr. Frederick D’Souza upgraded the school building with third floor which includes the new library, science lab and a multi activity room. His supervision and experience encouraged the staff towards professional development and undertake innovative pedagogical practices to improve student learning and work collaboratively.

On 11th June 2022 Christ School welcomed new Correspondent Rev. Fr. Romeo Lewis. We hope that in his tenure Christ School will flourish and walk on the right lines and reach the expected goal. Correspondent’s message on education is that we all have to respect our elders, teachers, neighbours, parents and our country, only then the true meaning of education completes in everyone’s life.

School Affiliation

Christ School follows the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Syllabus and English is the medium of instruction. Due importance is given to national language as well as regional language. Christ School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Ministry of Human Resources Development Govt. of India, Delhi, vide No. 830287. The School has been granted affiliation for Primary to Secondary Classes.

Christ School is under the Catholic Board of Education of the Diocese of Mangalore, Udupi, a religious and linguistic minority institution, which is a registered body.

Mission

Every child is born genius. Christ School recognizes the talents and potentials in every child and helps the child to bloom with knowledge and values to enhance the quality of life in the society.
